Scotland Yard
Ross and Bobbie couldn’t say another word since the elevator was about full. Bobbie would be getting off last and Ross felt her squeeze his hand as he got off. Hmm I wonder what she meant by that? He smiled he turned toward Alex’s office.
On the top floor, Bobbie went directly to the Chief Inspector’s office. The secretary ignored the urgency of Bobbie’s request to see the Chief Inspector. Instead, she checked credentials very deliberately. Eventually she went into the Inspector’s office and returned after what seemed like an hour.
Bobbie glared when she motioned for her to enter. To think I know her.
The Chief was reading a report and motioned for her to sit. She didn’t. Another minute he looked and she hadn’t moved. He frowned and started to speak when she raised her finger to her lips, shaking her head motioning silence and showed him her paper.
Knowing Ross had asked for her to work with him, he motioned for her to hand him the note Ross had sent. She went around the desk and handed it to him and still didn’t speak.
The note gave all of Ross’s reasons for believing a serious security breach had occurred there. He needed to meet with all people concerned as soon as possible outside of the Yard. ‘Please, give Bobbie your answer. I really think it would be a good idea if you’d put a tail on Alex until this case is finished.’
The Chief Inspector looked at her and nodded. He wrote down an answer quickly and handed it to her. She smiled, nodded and then left his office to hurry three floors down to Alex McGraw’s office.
Not knowing the scope of the breach, Chief O’Doul wrote another note to the Yard’s security ordering a complete sweep of the entire building. He left his office to personally deliver the directive.
“As you can see, this must be done on the quiet. I suggest you rotate your intervals every fifteen minutes. This order is not to be discussed with anyone but me. If anyone should inquire, I want to know about it.”
To have the Chief Inspector deliver the order meant total secrecy. “Yes sir, I’ll personally handle this.”
Chief Inspector O’Doul left the Yard and went directly to the American Embassy.
